Centre Research Projects

The Australian Centre for Financial Studies has established a focused program of research relating to the interests of the Financial Services industry, government and associated academia. Research grants have been the major mechanism to encourage and support the research activities of staff across the consortium universities. To date over $1 million has been distributed in these grants which have resulted in many quality publications.

The shaping of this program is guided by the Australian Centre’s Board and Industry Advisory Committee and is led by the Director of the Centre.

As part of the program, the Australian Centre has established:

• The Academic Research Grants program;
• A number of Industry Research Internships and
• Conference papers and presentations.

Each of these is further described below.

The Research program of the Australian Centre also includes research and consulting assignments undertaken for government and industry.

It is a characteristic of the research programs of the Australian Centre that as well as being of high academic integrity and quality, they are practical and relevant to the Australian financial and business community.

Research undertaken at the Australian Centre will be original and innovative, and not replicate research already undertaken elsewhere.

The research activities of the Australian Centre have been organised primarily into three research programs:

• Financial Regulation: topics, projects funded, events;
• Funds Management: topics, projects funded, events;
• New Financial Markets and Instruments: topics, projects funded, events and
• Other Areas: projects funded, events.

These are the areas where it is perceived that the greatest value can be added by the Australian Centr’s activities. These areas reflect the characteristics and strengths of the financial sector and finance academe.

The Australian Centre allows some flexibility in its research program where it is felt that the proposed area of research is relevant and of value. A number of Research Grants have been made for such purposes.
