The Australian Centre for Financial Studies is a not-for-profit consortium and provides numerous opportunities for industry organisations and individuals to partner with and support the Centre’s activities across the financial services sector.

Professor Deborah Ralston is the Director of the Australian Centre and a Professor of Finance at Monash University. Previous appointments include Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Division of Business Law and Information Science at the University of Canberra, and Director of the Centre for Australian Financial Institutions at the University of Southern Queensland. Deborah engages in research and policy debate on issues across the breadth of financial services, financial regulation and macroeconomic policy.  She chairs Finsia’s Consumer Finance Policy Group and is also a member of the ASIC Victorian Reference Group. Her doctoral study on the impact of prudential regulation on the performance of financial institutions formed the basis of an invited keynote address to the National Prudential Regulators Conference. She is able to present and lead conversations on a range of current issues in financial markets and services. Deborah is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Financial Services Institute of Australasia, and the CPA Australia. Deborah was formerly a Director of Heritage Building Society 1992-2003 and is currently a Director of the listed mortgage broking company Mortgage Choice. Recent presentations in 2011 have included: the SPAA Conference on advice, ethics and regulation; workshop on securitisation and covered bonds for Finsia; Super after Cooper conference panel; CMSF on benchmarking super funds; and roundtables with sponsor principals.

Professor Kevin Davis is the ACFS Research Director and is one of Australia’s best known commentators on, and analysts of, financial regulation, financial market developments and the economic and financial outlook. He is a regular consultant to government, regulators and industry including preparing the Davis Report, a study of Financial System Guarantees for the Federal Treasurer – which informed the development of the Financial Claims System. Before transitioning from economics into finance, he was a member of the influential INDECS group of economists which regularly reported on the Australian economy and macroeconomic policy and which produced eight editions of the book “State of Play”. He is widely published in academic and industry journals and able to bring insights from modern finance research to practical discussions. He is able to present and lead conversations on wide ranging topics such as: current developments in Australian financial markets; current issues in Australian financial regulation; implications of the international financial regulation agenda; the global economic and financial outlook. He is also able to provide briefings on more specific issues such as cost of capital; corporate funding; analysis of financial innovations. Presentations in 2011 have included: ASIC Summer School; Finsia Basel III conference; APRA training session; roundtables with sponsor principals; WACC workshops across Australia; and the APEC Regional Symposium.
